Socata TB-9 Tampico

Introduction

This project started as an add-on for my Hua Hin scenery. The Thai Civil Aviation Training Center uses these aircraft for training flights, and I felt that they would be suitable for filling up the airport with AI aircraft.

As I became more proficient in modeling, and with the introduction of better tools, I was able to expand my project somewhat. As always I received a lot of support from the Avsim MSFS Aircraft and Panel Design Forum and Khun Sukit from Thailflight.com provided the original inspiration.

A few months ago, a TB-20 was released. This is a much better model than mine, but I think that this still merits release.

The model includes:
* Custom Panel
* Pseudo-dynamic Virtual Cockpit (gauges and controls work)
* Moving parts/working doors
* Reflective textures/dynamic shine

Model Notes

This is my first aircraft, so Im sure that there are little points that may need improving. The weakest part of my design is definitely the flight model. It is based on the C172 model, but I wasnt able to tweak it enough for my satisfaction. This is an underwhelming aircraft in real life, and it seems a little underpowered. I also doubt that you will be able to get it to its stated ceiling of 11,000 feet very easily.

The panel looks pretty close. Ive included some extra radio/nav gauges that the real TB-9 probably doesnt have. You dont have to use them if you dont want, but I like having them available.

I tried playing around with gauge design, but the default Cessna gauges are pretty close, so I decided to keep them.

Flying

The TB-9 needs a lot of elevator trim while taking off, so dont forget it. There is a fair amount of torque from the propeller too. It has a low stall speed, but it tends to nose over quickly when it gets near to a stall.

Finally

Makes sure the file in the gauges folder actually gets copied to your FS2002 gauges folder. Never mind that it is a .cab file this is how the FS2002 XML gauges look.
This doesnt work too well as an AI aircraft, which was my original goal. The computer tended to land them a bit hard and they would disappear into dust. So, I uploaded a separate aircraft which can be used for AI.
